I lost my mp3 player to my old bag--wait, let me try again.

Okay, so years ago when Emma was in college and I was first courting her to be my friend (to my delight, she accepted, and many an arts and crafts funtime was had), she off-handedly gifted me with this little backpack. I don't know if I needed it or she just wanted to get rid of it, just-- for whatever reason she gave it to me.

I used that bag relentlessly as my work-bag for several years following (I guess four!), even though it was kind of old and starting to fall apart. When a hole opened in the bottom, I safety-pinned it shut. When one of the back straps ripped off, I just used the other one. Just as I don't know exactly why I got the bag, I'm really not sure why I kept it so long, either.

The bag had to be put down because the bottom finally pretty much ripped open, which meant it could no longer hold stuff. I only really acknowledged this AFTER I lost my mp3 player, though. Which is definitely an 'aw man!' situation, but not too bad. I only buy cheap mp3 players, so I'm only out 15$ and the songs I had on there, which I have elsewhere because of CDs and the like.

But the point is, I had to bring in CDs to work in the meantime. I haven't had the free money to be buying non-necessities yet(I did, however, buy a new backpack. My options were 'sack', 'Lady & the Tramp', 'nondescript pink' and 'Betty Boop'. So obviously, Betty won). I grabbed Of the Blue Color of the Sky, since I still like it. (Between that and The Wiz I've been pretty well set.)

All that lead to me reading up on Ok, Go again. This particular line in their Bio (written by Ira Glass) pretty much sums up exactly how I felt when I first saw and heard them:

The band simply overwhelmed the audience with this exuberant buzz of fun and happiness and youth and rock ‘n roll. They were sexy in a way that had a kind of well-scrubbed pop innocence to it, but that also moved a friend to murmur backstage, “I want to fuck all four of them.”

Yes. That is exactly it. All four of them is RIGHT.

Game of Thrones: I enjoyed the latest episode, though I could have lived without the rape flashback (just one rape free episode would be nice). Tywin and Arya scenes are so awesome. SO AWESOME.

Legend of Korra: spoilery in depth discussion! In short: I liked the episode and it made me more excited for the rest of the show, after being kinda meh on it for the last few. )

However, I really liked how Korra handled herself here, and I think the best, most character defining line came during the huddle:

Korra: If they're gonna cheat, then we've got to do it too!
Mako: No, the refs have it out for us. If we're going to win this thing, we have to do it fair and square.
Korra: That sounds like a lot less fun, but...fine.

Go Korra! I really like that moment for highlighting Korra's kind of questionable moral compass. The show's kicking up speed so here's hoping this episode is indicative of how things will go in the future!

Adventure Time: I think my favorite part was Cinnamon Bun cracking when Hug-Wolf-Finn kept asking if he wanted a hug. So awesome.

I drew fanart of Fionna dressed as Utena as per the request of leosboots, the girl I mentioned in my previous post about that AT fanart that bothered me. It came out pretty good in some respects, but sorta terrible in others. I have SUCH a hard time drawing clean lineart, and that shows. Blargh!

Today was all right. Workouts were really good, and Danny had picked up Struggle of Catan, which is the card game version of Settlers of Catan, apparently. We played a game of that after workouts, which was fun. Then I got to drawing to kind of put my sour mood out of my mind.

See, today was all right; I spent the whole day working my ass off again on yet another arbitrary new project thrown our way by the client I deal with, and I'm behind for my second client. (Thankfully, third client has only had minor requests lately so I have been able to keep her happy.) I even decided to stick around an extra half hour to get my paycheck because mysteriously, it didn't show up before 3:30.

I ended up leaving because I needed to be home in time for workouts; just as I got home, my coworker called me to let me know that apparently, 'something happened' with funding again, and we're not getting paid till tomorrow morning. Any of us.

This is the fourth time this has happened in the last six months.

I'm actually doing okay for the first time in a LONG time right now, but it doesn't really put my faith in my employer's ability to keep me employed, which is pretty worrisome. I've been looking for a new job, but tomorrow's the first time all week I'll really have time to dig in and just churn out as many applications to places that I would genuinely WANT to work for as possible.

Fingers crossed I'll hear back from someone soon.

Comic script edits: I have been working on the second draft of Silvertongue for the collaboration I'd mentioned some weeks back. I'm really excited and simultaneously nervous about it. My artist buddy pointed out some really important flaws with the original so it's needed something of an overhaul. I continue to be amazed at how difficult it is to actually edit something, for me. It's not that I can't see what needs to be fixed or even that I can't fix it or that I don't want to. For some reason, having the existing structure there, knowing exactly what needs to change, knowing more or less how I want to enact that change-- it's all not quite the same as actually doing it. I definitely need to force myself to do this more in all things writing, but in this case I just hope I'm not writing one of those dreaded scripts that no artist would want to have to work with.
