Danny is joking that my willingness to own Shakespeare in Love just so I could show it to him was proof that I secretly like, instead of dislike, Gwyneth Paltrow. Frankly, I like anyone who looks that good crossdressing, and I'm not afraid to say it. I just dislike Gwyneth Paltrow in other things. Sometimes. Not all the time! Most of the time.

Anyway, rewatching Shakespeare in Love was fun because on the television and so many years later, I got the added benefit of subtitles for lines I have difficulty hearing. It's a kind of silly, zero-sum sort of movie for something that's so genuinely serious about love and how destructive love can be. I still wish that Gwyneth Paltrow had played Romeo at the end, because she made such an awesome, sexy boy, but it works out as it is, in any case.

I spent a large part of today agonizing about whether I'm making the right choice career wise, what the right choice is and what constitutes being sure about that. This led to a conversation with my mother something along these lines.

Mom: You should write. People notice your writing online; they'll notice it if you write your own things, too.
Me: Well, they do. [awkward laugh] Well-- they do and this is really embarrassing, but it's like-- the stuff that people say is good, that's me writing porn, mom.
Mom: There's nothing wrong with that!
Me: Yeah, but-- I don't know, I just sort of. Don't want to be like Mark Twain, all 'hey guys, I know you know me for this one thing but here's my serious stuff and-- guys? ...guys? Hey!'
Mom: I get what you're saying.
Me: I don't want people to associate my name with porn, I don't think. Kinda?
Mom: Use a pen name? Look, there's really nothing to be ashamed of in writing porn. You can make good money doing that. It's a marketable skill, you shouldn't deny yourself that opportunity.
Me: Haha, like writing romance novels?
Mom: Exactly!
Me: I guess I write more romance than porn. It's like romance with a little porn thrown in the middle when I want instant gratification.
Mom: You should try it!

So...yes. My mom is pretty awesome. So is that picture I mentioned drawing earlier in the week! I forgot to actually link it, so here it is below.
