So we just saw the morning showing of Bourne Legacy. Speaking as someone who intentionally never watched the original three (my parents kept trying to get me to watch them, which made me determined not to-- it's one of those few things I DID rebel on, what can I say?), I genuinely enjoyed it. While I could tell there were References to Prior Movies being Made, it didn't interrupt the fun of the experience overall. Danny did say for him, having seen them, it was pretty heavy handed.

Anyway, while I do feel they could have stood to let the female character have a better background than "mad scientist", at least she was actually a scientist. Her inability to fend for herself physically when being hunted by Imaginary Evil Government Organization was a focal point of her conversations with Renner's character, but she was at the very least capable at her actual job. There were overtones of romance, but not even a kiss, let alone any sex scenes, which was nice.

My favorite thing about this movie is that I can recommend it wholly; there's not even anything close to an implied rape scene. This baby is just action. And Jeremy Renner vs. Pack of Wolves. That was pretty awesome.

I am about 95% sure that his number being 5 had absolutely nothing to do with Gene Wolfe's The Fifth Head of Cerberus, but the last 5% of me totally wants it to be a reference. This guy screamed unreliable narrator. It was fantastic. So I did like the movie a lot, and it was fun to watch.

Downsides are pretty much that the "ooo, secret evil organization controlling the go~overnme~ent" parts were a little repetitive and held no personal interest for me. It really was just a second movie going on concurrent with the first, since Renner's character and Norton's never ended up meeting and talking. (I wish they had; but someone appears to be gunning for their sequel.) I also wouldn't have minded Renner getting to partner up with Guy in Cabin so they could become closer friends and we'd actually care when Guy in Cabin died, but oh well.

Best thing was getting to see previews for Ang Lee's new movie Life of Pi, which looks interesting, and Clint Eastwood's second or third return from "I'm not gonna act in movies anymore I swear" retirement, Trouble with the Curve. It looks amazing, and stars him and Amy Adams as a dysfunctional father-daughter pair doing a road trip. I'm totally excited!
