"the Road Warrior" and other things

In an effort to locate the first Mad Max movie, which we mistakenly thought was The Road Warrior, we ended up...well, watching "The Road Warrior". It was okay, though it did leave me more or less squarely blaming certain tropes of "post apocalyptic future" on the series. (Like, okay; people being spiteful about resources? It's douchey, but I guess so. Every post-apocalyptic movie needing to throw in a rape scene where a woman is raped publicly and then killed? I'm really fucking sick of this.)

Bruce Spence was in it (young Bruce Spence! an interesting experience) as was Virginia Hey, and that made it pretty damn awesome. I don't really care about Mel Gibson so much one way or the other, but when he was younger he did a good job of looking the Generic Hero part.

In the end we realized it was a sequel and looked up a summary of the original, as well as the title to see if we'd seen and missed it. The store just doesn't carry the first, apparently. Sounds like there's a fourth film in production, which has the potential to be interesting. I'm not sure if I really care enough about post-apocalyptic punk and leather settings to watch it. Not unless there's a promise of no goddamned rape scenes.

Danny and I are planning to see the Aardman productions film "Pirates" tonight; before that, I have a last appointment with the Chiropractor and before that, we're hoping to go to the local community college's office to sign up for classes. I'm going to try to do the classes needed to qualify for a teacher certification, and Danny's hoping to do the classes in library science needed to get the certification for that, having recently discovered that library maintenance involves fixing computers as well as customer service and loving books, which makes it pretty much the coolest thing he could ever imagine, and a job he could actually aspire to get pretty soon if he's able to do the certification. We pretty much have Mercale to thank for that, as it wouldn't have come up if I hadn't been blathering to him about how cool library science is after a conversation we recently had!
