A couple of articles about ladies, because ladies is worth talkin' about

Salon's response to the Atlantic article "Can modern women 'have it all'?" - there's no such thing as 'having it all', so stop trying to blame feminism for continued inequality!

Great piece. Both, really. I'm really tired of everything being turned into an either/or situation. Compromise is ridiculously important, and undervalued. And there's no reason not to keep pushing for improvements until things are actually as good as they can get. What other purpose can you actually imagine for humanity or life in general, if you want to presume that life exists for a purpose? Shouldn't that purpose be to actively seek to evolve and try to become utopian?

Sarah Sister's Abortion story

This one I found pretty uplifting. And the last line does resonate for me; I feel a little embarrassed by how much length I go to to keep my online and iRL identities separate. Working on expanding my own comfort zone, there.

Unrelated: Last night, I rewatched Disney's Sleeping Beauty with a critical eye and ear for the project I'm sort of doodling up. I fell asleep during the scene where Phillip is ascending the tower and kisses Sleeping Beauty for a minute or two; sorry, Phillip, but for all that you are sweet tempered, you're not as interesting as Maleficent.

Edited to add: Brave: Pixar's Feminist Fantasy (The article is slightly spoilery so if you're worried about that, definitely avoid the link)

Hmm. I was kind of worried this would be the case. I'll still go to it, I guess, because if female protagonists = traditional Disney film, and Pixar might go more for 'traditional' if this movie's really successful, I'd like to see the movie be successful and don't mind contributing there.

I particularly liked the complaint about Pixar's human characters looking kinda wonky. I agree: it wouldn't be so dang noticeable if they weren't playing the photo-realistic background game...but they are. If you want a stylized character look, it really helps the whole product to stylize the backgrounds too.
