tell me have you seen Elaine tonight?
Oh man. So SOPA and PIPA have been tabled; a new act, which I haven't had time to read and couldn't give a fair opinion on just yet, has been presented as OPEN (I kind of hate backronyms), and then the internet is full of alternately hilarious, hopeful, and depressing articles about it. I happened across one such article, lured by its Mega-title and my own love of Captain N, and have to share this line:
"Before closing up shop, Congress nabbed and eliminated Megaupload, a well-known fire sharing site, brandying it as their scapegoat of copyright violation."
Yes, I also like to brandy or bread my victory roasts before searing them on a spit and serving them to my hungry cadre of vikings.
Anyway. There's also been some backlash against Hollywood. I kind of agree with it, to be honest. My biggest complaint about the whole thing is Hollywood mooning and moping about how we, the mean ol' customers, just aren't shelling out enough cash to their tastes. Aside from the fact that inflation means prices, but not wages, rise, there's also the fact that we, as customers, have exactly one means of review for Hollywood, and that's to stop supporting them when they suck.
I don't watch television unless I'm purchasing the whole show on DVD, pretty much. I rarely go to see new movies, most of the films I watch are old and only getting older. And you know what, Hollywood? There is a reason for that.
You are making shitty sequels to movies I never even cared about in the first place. You are condemning women to secondary roles where their sole purpose is sex appeal, and you are condemning all non-white people to being killed off, talked over, and relegated to the side of the story. You are rehashing the goddamned "military is eeeevil" plot for the hundred thousandth time.
You know why you are not making 'enough' money? It's because I'm not buying. I'm not even pirating.
I just don't care.
Make some good movies-- movies about groups of people who are fully developed characters, who care about each other, who work together-- and we'll talk. Make some genuinely visually impressive films-- films with actually unusual visuals, with true art worked into them instead of something slapped together in five minutes-- and maybe I'll think about watching them. Make some movies that go against the same old boring grain, and I will support them.
Stop acting like an entitled bitch, and start trying to impress me, Hollywood. I'm actually the market you care about. You know, the one that can be convinced it's worth it to pay.
In other news, it sounds like Wizards is releasing the 1st edition D&D books (plus a new cover) in April and I am very excited!
Also my back is incredibly sore because I pulled a muscle!
I think that's everything.
EDIT: Fixed! now only interesting things are not cut. Woo!
So now let me ramble about TOR! I know few of you care but I'm doing it anyway.
GUSS TUNO IS SO COOL. So cool you guys. SO cool. Oh yes. Oh VERY yes. Double-double crossed, and then we ran the best con ever about Hothian Ice Fever, which made me grin like an idiot and clap with glee! Then I hit on a Pirate Queen!
I am very much enjoying the smuggler storyline, and Soldat continues to look exactly as badass as I want him to. Just wish I had cool-looking boots and gloves! I like his wacky shirt.
Edit: Today's Manly Guys Doing Manly Things has taught me to never assume I know what I want. I thought I wanted Commander Badass to never change. Apparently, I wanted to LAUGH LIKE MAD at Suddenly Stylin' Commander Badass, and then for him to change back at once!
